EDUCATION & TRAINING

I completed a four-year clinical Master of Science in Oriental Medicine at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, Oregon, and am a licensed acupuncturist and natural medicine practitioner in private practice in Baltimore, Maryland.

I was fortunate to complete a year-long clinical mentorship with the esteemed Dr. Brandt Stickley, licensed acupuncturist and expert herbalist specializing in the synthesis of classical Chinese Han and Tang dynasty medicine. Furthermore, I completed a year-long mentorship with renown herbalist and founder of the NUNM classical Chinese medicine program, Dr. Heiner Fruehauf, in the philosophy and cosmology of Chinese medicine and its clinical applications. Under Dr. Fruehauf's mentorship, I also studied formulations from the Shang Han Lun, a herbal classic compiled by legendary physician Zhang Zhongjing during the Han dynasty (206 BC–220 AD).

Many practitioners of natural medicine discover a passion for their work while searching for their own health and happiness.

I experienced my first Chinese medicine treatment as an unborn baby in breech presentation, turning comfortably and with ease in response to a gentle warming technique called moxibustion. Twenty years later, I returned to the medicine I experienced before birth through a desire to take my health to a new level. I fell in love with Chinese medicine as a beautifully systematic art form interwoven across thousands of years, reinterpreted with each generation to serve ever-changing needs. But most of all, I fell in love with its undeniable results.

Transform your health by addressing the root causes of conditions and symptoms.

Chinese medicine is unique in its ability to address a broad range of health conditions, from causal factors and physical complaints underlying chronic disease, such as pain, discomfort, and misalignments, to mental, emotional, and spiritual concerns underlying stress, anxiety, and depression. Acupuncture and herbs easily complement existing medical care choices and when administered properly, as patients rarely experience adverse side-effects. In response to treatment, patients can feel unusually relaxed and notice a strong desire to rest that may interfere with a generally high-paced schedule. This can be thought of as a temporary yet crucial reset: a restorative, health promoting, and energizing shift that is rarely made available to us.

My pursuit of knowledge and skill is motivated by a commitment to excellence in my work.

I am passionate about the health of my patients. The majority of my free time is spent researching and strengthening my understanding of Chinese medical literature and treatment techniques. My pursuit of knowledge and skill is motivated by a commitment to excellence in my work. Clients deserve a practitioner who approaches them with a clear and rigorous understanding of Chinese medicine diagnostic and treatment principles, while recognizing that symptoms of disease are merely signals of disharmony which resolve when balance is restored. With five years of hands-on experience as a certified bowen therapist, a gentle form of bodywork, and over 1,500 hours of clinical training in natural medicine, I have found the body communicates important information through posture and physical orientation, which is related to stress and tensions held palpably in the tissues. My assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic processes unfold simultaneously to approach a more complete picture of my patient’s needs and goals, as I work to provide a supportive, restorative environment where steps toward better health can be taken in confidence.
